  Gilbert Poliquin - 2000/03/06

** Version 1.01

 I. DESCRIPTION

This package of utilities for Line 6's POD include:
	- a "device" (i.e. driver) allowing Cubase's Studio Module (PC)
	  to interface with the Line 6 POD Amp Modeling Direct Box;
	- a (Cubase) mixermap, to control and automate POD's parameters;
	- a series of PC1600+ presets, to control POD's parameters. The
above mixermap is designed to work as the graphic interface for
these presets (i.e. move a fader or push a button and the
corresponding fader, slider, knob or button will move on the
screen. Of course, they can be used separately, if you prefer.

 II. WHAT's NEW

	- Modified the (standard) mixermap and added an alternate version;
	- Package now includes PC1600+ presets.

 IV. INSTALLATION

	1. Studio Module driver: Please refer to your Cubase manual;
	2. Mixermap: Please refer to your Cubase manual; do not forget to
properly set the output device and corresponding MIDI channel!
	3. PC1600+ presets: set your PC1600+ MIDI channels to 01 for sysex
	   dump.

 V. NOTES

   A. Studio Module:

	1. You can rename Presets by Alt-clicking on the name of the relevant
Preset. Just remember to update the contents of POD's internal
memory by Ctrl-Clicking on the name afterwards.

	2. Use the "Auxilliary" Bank to reorganize Banks and load individual
Presets into locations of your choice: just click on the name of
the patch you want to use and, within the next 4 seconds, press
"save" on tho POD panel. You can then choose the location where the
received Preset should be stored before pressing "save" a second
time to commit the Preset to memory.

   B. Mixermaps:

	1. The associated Mixermaps allow you to edit POD's parameters, even
those not accessible from the unit itself, as you would in the
Editor which came with POD. However, not only can you do it
directly from within CUBASE, but you can now automate parameter
changes (for example, try turning up the Drive fader during a solo).
Alternately, you can take snaphots of your edits and save your
	   creations with Studio Module.

	2. The remote controllers use the same CC as the objects (fader, knob,
button, etc.) that they control. This was done so that, when using
the included PC1600x presets, the objects on the screen will move
in tandem with the associated fader or button on the PC1600x.
Remember to set the "MIDI to all" function in the mixermap's
	   drop-down menu.

	3. The order in wich the effects appear is (now) correct even though
the same seems to have been set at random and does not mirror the
order of the effects shown on the POD unit itself.

	4. The alternate mixermap contains the Mono/Stereo switch and the
right-channel knobs and faders which, according to LINE 6
documentation and MIDI CC/sysex charts, should allow POD's delay
effect to operate in stereo. Unfortunately, this feature does not
seem to be supported in my version (1.4) of POD's operating system.
I suspect that the second delay line is used instead to allow
changing presets without having the new preset abruptly cut the
	   delay in the previous one.

   C. PC1600x Presets:

	1. When using the included Cubase mixermap, the objects on the screen
will move in tandem with the associated fader or button on the
PC1600x, making the mixermap act as a kind of graphical interface
	   for the fader box.

	2. The presets were designed to follow the same signal flow as a real
amp, with mic'd speakers and effects applied at the console. With
this in mind, the wah-wah and volume pedals were placed before the
	   Amp model selection.

	3. The wah-wah (Preset A - fader 1) and volume (Preset A - fader 4)
pedal effects can be controlled with pedals plugged into CV1
(CV1:CC4) and CV2 (CV2:CC7), respectively. This works in all 3
	   presets.

	4. In all presets, fader 13 controls the level of the Reverb while
button 13 turns the Reverb effect on and off.

	5. Preset C includes a Mono/Stereo switch (button 4) and 4 controllers
(faders 4 ~ 8) designed to operate POD's dual delay lines in sereo,
the whole in accordance to LINE 6's documentation and MIDI CC/sysex
charts. Also, faders 9 ~ 11 were intended as master faders to
control certain parameters (time, feedback and level) in both
channels at once. Unfortunately, this feature (stereo delay lines)
does not seem to be supported in my version (1.4) of POD's operating
system. As a result, faders 4 ~ 8 and button 4 currently have no
effect on POD, while faders 9 ~ 11 are best left alone as they act
as masters to faders 1, 3 and 4, only.
